Bangladeshi citizens need a visa for Ireland
Bangladesh is on Ireland's list of visa-required nationalities, so a Bangladeshi citizen needs a long-stay (D) study visa before travelling to study.
Visa and non-visa required nationalities (Immigration Service Delivery), checked 12 October 2026
Where to apply if you live in Bangladesh
Applications from residents of Bangladesh are decided by the Embassy of Ireland in New Delhi. Create your application on AVATS (visas.inis.gov.ie), print and sign the summary, then post your documents to the Embassy in New Delhi directly, or to an agent in Kolkata who lodges them at VFS Kolkata. No biometrics are taken for Bangladesh residents. Arrange collection of your passport from VFS in Delhi or Kolkata.

Documents for a long-stay study visa
Immigration Service Delivery lists: passport (valid at least 12 months after arrival), photographs, private medical insurance, an application letter, any previous visa refusals, the letter of acceptance for a full-time course of at least 15 hours a week, an explanation of any gaps in education, proof of fee payment, evidence of academic ability, evidence of English, finances with six months of statements, and the Summary of Finances form.

Putting together a posted application
Applications from Bangladesh are posted rather than lodged at VFS, so send A4 photocopies alongside all original documents: the Embassy returns originals only if a photocopy is also supplied. Every document must be original, legible, verifiable and in English, with a certified translation of anything that is not. Replace a damaged passport before you apply. Documents sent after the application are not accepted unless a visa officer asks for them. Flight bookings are not required, and flights booked before a visa are at your own risk.

Evidence of English
You must show you can follow your course in English. Submit the certificate from the test provider, showing your results, with your visa application.

Private medical insurance
Private medical insurance is required. Your college may arrange it, in which case your letter of acceptance must include the details; otherwise you must arrange it yourself. Either way, include evidence of it with your application.

Tuition paid before the visa application
Where the course fees are less than €6,000, the fees must be paid in full to the college before you apply for the visa. Where they are more than €6,000, at least €6,000 must be paid before you apply.

Living-expense funds for a one-year course
For a course of one academic year, Immigration Service Delivery requires evidence that you have immediate access to at least €10,000, its estimated cost of living for a student for one academic year, and ready access to €10,000 for each further year in addition to that year's fees. Bank statements must show six months of activity; credit cards are not accepted as evidence.

Previous refusals and honest applications
If you have been refused a visa for any country, give the details and include the original refusal letter: not disclosing a previous refusal will result in refusal. Do not include false or misleading information or documents; the application may be refused, you may not be allowed to appeal, and you may be blocked from an Irish visa for 5 years.

Visa fee for applicants in Bangladesh
The Embassy in New Delhi lists ₹5,300 for a single-entry visa and ₹9,000 for multiple entry, paid by an INR demand draft made out to the Embassy of Ireland. INR demand drafts are available from Sonali Bank, BRAC Bank and Pubali Bank. Immigration Service Delivery states the fee is not refunded if the application is refused or withdrawn.

When to apply, and how long a decision takes
The Embassy in New Delhi gives 4 to 8 weeks for a study visa decision and asks applicants to apply up to 90 days before travel. Applications made less than three weeks before the course starts cannot be guaranteed a decision, and status updates are not provided. If a study visa is refused and you appeal, the Embassy gives 6 calendar months for an appeal decision.

While your application is decided
The Embassy keeps your passport until a decision. Processing times count working days from when the Embassy receives the application, so add postage both ways. Each morning, by about 11:00 Indian Standard Time, the Embassy publishes the list of decisions made so far this year; search it for your application reference number. If your application cannot be approved on first assessment you, or your sponsor, may be phoned to address inconsistencies, from the Embassy number 011 49403200.

Avoiding visa fraud
The Embassy warns against agents who offer guaranteed visas at inflated prices: a fee much higher than the listed one is a sign of fraud. There is no requirement to use a third-party agent. Ireland does not issue eVisas, and if your application does not appear as approved in the published decisions, any visa you are given by a third party is fake.

The decision
What the visa allows, and what to do if it is refused.
When you receive the visa
Check the visa details as soon as you receive it. A D (residence) visa permits a stay of 90 days in order to register your residence in Ireland; once registered you receive an Irish Residence Permit, which allows travel in and out without further visas until it expires. The visa stays valid on a new passport if you also carry the passport that holds it.

If the visa is refused
You receive a Letter of Refusal explaining why. You can appeal within 2 months of the date on that letter, and there is no fee for an appeal. The visa fee itself is not refunded.

Staying on after a Master's
The Third Level Graduate Programme lets graduates with a level 9 award from a recognised Irish awarding body stay for 12 months, renewable for a further 12 months where you show you have taken steps towards graduate employment, within an overall limit of eight years on student permissions. You must still hold Stamp 2 and apply within six months of being told you have achieved the award. It is for seeking graduate employment and an employment permit.
